What Is Mulch?
In simple, mulch is organic material like bark, leaves, compost, wood chips and other off-cuts which have been processed that can be placed around the base of trees, plants and bushes.

Mulch provide important benefits to your trees and plants both aesthetically and through functionality. Mulching discourages weed growth while providing important nutrients to the soil. Mulch also conserves the moisture in soil and aids to suffocate unwanted weeds from growing.

When mulched is layered around the base of a plant, mulch reduces sunlight and airflow to the unwanted growth effectively restricting any opportunity to grow while allowing your plant to absorb sunlight and the nutrients available in the soil to grow and remain healthy and strong.

Fresh Mulch Vs Aged Mulch
As their name suggests, fresh mulch is simply freshly made vs mulch which has been aged. Fresh mulch is generally sound for most gardens and lasts longer than aged mulch however takes away more nitrogen from the soil in comparison to aged mulch so for plants like citrus trees, rose bushes or new plants, aged mulch is recommended.
