Spring Tree Care

It might not feel like it with the weather we have had lately but Spring is here so in preparation for some good weather we thought it would be a good idea to share some pointers.

Spring Cleaning

If you haven’t had any time in the garden all winter, there’s a good chance that there is a buildup of growth, dead leaves, branches, twigs and other bits and pieces building up. A light spring clean to remove unwanted foliage is a good place to get started and will brighten up your garden.

It’s Pruning Time

Whether it’s tree pruning for those larger trees or even your small pot plants, if they have been outdoors all winter, now is a good time to do some pruning. There is a good chance that some plants might be damaged from the heavy rains and harsh winds during the season so check for damaged or broken branches which could be pruned away.

Unwanted Pests

If you have followed our blog, you would have read that winter is the time that unwanted pests may find new homes in your trees. They may settle over winter waiting for some good weather to come along. Now is a good time to start checking whether you have any of these unwanted pests or whether they are starting to get active. If you’re not sure, it may be useful to consult with a qualified arborist to organize an inspection.

Nutrition & Mulch

Even though we get a lot of rain during winter, water alone isn’t enough to ensure good health. Like us, our trees, plants and shrubs need more than just water to keep us healthy. It’s a good time for some fertilising and mulching. With the heavy winds and rains, it’s a common scene that mulch gets thinned out and washed away. Have a look around your property where you would normally apply mulch and replenish where mulching is needed.

Tree Removal

There may be instances where some trees have not handled the winter well at all. In some cases these pose a real hazard to properties. Even worse, it could pose a real problem to people. There are different scenarios why it may be necessary to remove a tree. If tree removal is necessary or if you are not sure, consult with your local qualified arborist. If gardening is not your forte, hiring a tree removal service is highly recommended. Removing a tree might sound like a simple task but if done wrong it can not only cause property damage, it may cause some serious personal injury.

Spring is a great time of year. Whether you are a nature lover or enjoy the outdoors and your back yard, there is definitely something in the air. Enjoy this time of year and make the most of your home. A little bit of spring care will lay the foundations for a good Summer as well as prepare your home for some good times whether enjoying some private time or entertaining with good friends and family.
